Why is it so important to have an initial office meeting
with a realtor before we can actually look at homes?
A home purchase is probably the most expensive purchase you will ever
make. The initial office meeting is the time for you to meet the person
that will guide you through all the necessary steps for this major
purchase. You will discuss agency (buyers agent, transaction broker, etc)
financing issues, and a detailed analysis of what is important to you so
that your agent can properly research and prepare for the actual home
viewing on the next meeting.
Isn't it better for me
to work with as many agents as possible to find the right house?
No. Most agents belong and have the same access to the multiple
listing service (mls), a large database of all
properties available. You end up seeing the same houses with different
agents. In addition to mls, an agent will often make time consuming cold
calls or knock on doors to find their client that home. If agents know you
are working with other realtors, their extra work for you may be in vain.
The end result is you will have many realtors working
not very hard for you at all. You are far better off working with
one knowledgeable, experienced and hard working agent
whom you like and trust.
